Each year in Derbyshire, England Toads head for breeding grounds such as ponds and lakes. The only problem is that now there are roads the toads must cross to get to their breeding grounds.
Sadly, hundreds of toads don’t make it across the roads.
Chris Monk, a member of the Derbyshire Amphibian and Reptile Group, organizes volunteers to pick toads, put them into buckets and carry them safely across the road.
As more people move to the Derbyshire area, more and more toads are getting killed.
Toads eat bugs that eat plants. They are an important part of the ecology and Monk is doing his part to make sure there are toads for many years to come.
