Italy has suffered more than most countries during this coronavirus pandemic. But there has been one unexpected and positive result.
In Venice, the canals are typically flooded with water taxis, gondolas and all kinds of motorboats. The water is typically muddy and grey. Now, local people are sharing their photos of clean canals. Ducks and little fishes have been spotted in the water. The water is now so clean in many places that you can see to the very bottom.
The population quarantined means less traffic or no traffic and so sediment, usually churned up by motors, now settles to the bottom resulting in the canals being less polluted and much clearer.
A Facebook group called Venezia Pulita was started to share the images with the world.
