Raising Interest

The Art of Giving
Have your students find an article in the newspaper about a philanthropist, or a philanthropic act. Ask students to answer questions based on the who, what, when, where, why and how of the story. Stress attention to details as well as an understanding of the story. Who recalls the most?

New and Used
Find five new items for sale in the newspaper. Chart the items and their prices. Can you find similar used items for sale? What is the difference in price? What are the advantages and disadvantages of buying new versus used?
