Crossword Averaging
Select a crossword puzzle from a newspaper. Cut out the puzzle and glue it to the top of a piece of unlined paper. Add the number of letters in each ACROSS answer. Divide your sum by the number of ACROSS answers to get the average number of letters in an ACROSS answer. Compute the average for the DOWN answers.

Sets are Everywhere
Everywhere you look in the newspaper there are sets. Cut out all of the items you think should belong in one set (they should have something in common). Paste your items in a line on a piece of paper. Separate each item with a comma. Place brackets { } around the beginning and the end of your set. Give your set to a classmate and see if he/she can correctly identify it.
