| Using the travel section (advertisements and news articles) from your newspaper plan a trip to somewhere in the United States or Canada (Alaska and Hawaii included). Be sure to include the following: What form of transportation will be used? How much will it cost? What kind of clothes will you need to take? (Clip ads from the newspaper for this.) What special points of interest do you want to see? What special activities are schedules that you do not want to miss? Include a map showing your travel route. This report can be given orally using your visual aids or written. |

| Choose an inside page of your newspaper. Count the number of news stories on the page. Count the number of ads. Use a ruler to measure the length of a news column. If a column is one column wide and two inches long it is called 2 column inches. How many column inches are in one news story? Ads can be measured the same way. On one the newspaper how many column inches are ads and how many are editorial? Make bar graphs showing your results. |
