Read the Letters to the Editor and find one that gives an opinion on a topic young people might find interesting. Do you agree or disagree with the writer? Defend your answer. Write a response back to the editor. Dear Editor: I think that thirteen-year-old kids should be allowed to drive.

Transportation
Look through your newspaper to find pictures of different ways people travel. Paste these pictures on a piece of paper with the title MODERN TRANSPORTATION. On another piece of paper draw or collect pictures or words of ways people used to travel before the 1900s'. Title it TRANSPORTATION OF THE PAST. Are there some methods that appear on both pages?

Play Ball!
Practice math facts by using sports scores! Find the score of a game. Create a math fact or number sentence about that score. For example if the Giants beat the Cubs 9-3 the number sentence would be 9-3=6.

Obituaries
Find the obituary section in your newspaper. Who is the oldest person who died recently? How old was that person? What had the person accomplished in his or her lifetime? What changes do you think they saw in the world while they were alive?
